Newmarket: Strike Red

Eyecatcher last time over course and distance. Fast closing sectional despite trouble in running suggests he'd have gone close. Strong traveller who could take a big field sprint handicap.

Strike Red’s running style can make him a hostage to fortune; more than once he has been travelling like a dream waiting for a gap that never comes. However, I believe there is big pot to be won with him this year, especially in big fields where he can travel and close strongly.

Last time out his race was ruined out the gates and then he was hampered 2f later for good measure. He still managed a fast closing sectional and was only beaten 1.5 lengths; there is a strong argument to be said that he may have won.

Stall 20 could be great or dreadful but Richard Fahey has won this race twice with 4-year-olds in the last 10 years and he’s got another live chance.
