Newcastle Tips: Veena
Narrow victor on last two starts but rapidly improving after 6-month break. Suspect there is more to come.
A head separated Veena and Poppy In The Wind on their last meeting but despite the 4lbs turnaround in the weights I expect Veena to confirm the placings.
When they met at the start of February, Veena was making only her second start after a six-month break. Visually she travelled the stronger of the two and her profile is on a steeper upwards trajectory.
Last time out Veena ran a fast time for the grade at Chelmsford, finishing strongly off a true gallop. Despite the narrow margin of her last two wins neither jockey threw the kitchen sink at her and one suspects she is a bit better than the bare results. That is confirmed by her sectionals and speed ratings and she can win again off a mark in the 70s.
