Newcastle Tips: Foolaad

Foolaad has run two good races at Newcastle recently and although he is up in grade and down in trip he might spring a minor surprise.

Last time out he showed bright speed over a mile but Kevin Lundie got the fractions wrong and Foolaad was a sitting duck in the final furlong. The 6-year-old looked legless at the finish and his finishing speed was 95% of his overall speed, much slower than par, indicating an overly strong pace.

The step back in trip is therefore a sensible move and we shouldn’t forget Foolaad started his career as a sprinter. He’s obviously had his problems since then but he’s shown ability on his last two starts and he might just be making a return to form.
