Newcastle Tips: Doc Sportello

Newcastle Tips: Doc Sportello

Won a claimer at 66/1 but no fluke. Travelled best and the time was good. Lightly raced and possibly more to come.

Doc Sportello might only have won a claimer on his last start but it was an amazing performance. Tracking a solid gallop, he was always travelling best and won the race with relative ease finishing 2.5 lengths ahead of Intibaah.

As claimers go it wasn’t a bad one. There were three horses rated in the 80s and Doc Sportello beat them all fair and square. The time of the race was also good, he earned an adjusted speed rating of 72 and his overall time was 0.77s faster than Poyle Vinnie’s over the same course and distance albeit 14 days apart.

Perhaps most encouraging of all is that Doc Sportello is very lightly raced, he’s only had four starts and his Newcastle run was the first in over 7 months.

Michael Herrington was lucky enough to win the ballot and his £10,000 claim could prove a great piece of business.
