Newcastle Tips: Captain Dunne

Newcastle Tips: Captain Dunne

Rising 11-year-old but still retains early speed and might be difficult to peg back off a light weight.

It’s been 17 months since Captain Dunne last tasted success and although his form is regressive he might be able to capitalise off a light weight in the 5.15 Newcastle.

In his prime Captain Dunne used to burn off his rivals with blistering early pace and although the 11-year-old has lost some of his early boot there have been signs that the fire is still alight.

Three starts ago at Chester he set an unsustainable gallop, where his finishing speed was 97.4% of his average race speed, much slower than par.

A slow start next time at Redcar meant he couldn’t challenge Bronze Beau for the lead but he was only beaten 2.75 lengths and although that was on turf he faces a similar, straight flat track at Newcastle.
