Newcastle Tips: Amazour
Course and distance winner who shaped with promise on his last outing, clocking fastest closing sectional.
Outrage is chasing the hat-trick in the 1.20 Newcastle and was deeply impressive last time at Kempton. Closing off a solid gallop, he ran the fifth fastest closing sectional from the last 5,094 runners at the track, earning a big speed rating in the process. The question mark is whether he can reproduce the form at 6f?
Amazour on the other hand is a proven 6f sprinter. He won a class 2 handicap over course and distance during the summer and shaped well at Kempton last time.
Given too much to do in an even run race, he was 8 lengths in arrears with 3f to go but managed to get to within 2.2 lengths of the winner by the finish line. His 33.97s split was the best in the race and fellow closer Spring Loaded franked the form with a facile win on Boxing Day.
Taking into account his jockey’s claim he is only a pound higher than when winning in June and should go close again.
