Newcastle Tips: Alice Thornton
Tracked an overly strong pace on her all-weather debut but was still good enough to clock the fastest closing sectional despite tiring. Impressive.
It’s still too early in Newcastle’s all-weather life to create reliable speed ratings but we do have sectionals and they suggest Alice Thornton could be quite useful.
Last time out at Newcastle she achieved the rare feat of setting an overly strong pace but still clocking the fastest closing sectional. Her finishing speed was 95.35% of the average race speed (slower than par) but everything in the field finished even more slowly.
Only Who’s Shirl got close to Alice Thornton’s closing sectional and she started her run seven lengths further back.
The handicapper has stung Alice Thornton with a 10lbs rise but she is lightly raced and is 1/1 on the all-weather. She won by five lengths racing the hard way and might still be ahead of her revised mark.
