Newcastle Tip: Oriental Lilly
Course record is 311 and doubts over trip look unfounded given the strong closing sectionals she's been clocking. Still ahead of her mark.
Oriental Lilly is looking to land the hat-trick in the 7.45 Newcastle but there might be some fat in the price because of the doubt surrounding the trip. Her last two wins have come at 5f but those doubts looks misplaced given the style of her races.
Oriental Lilly has run the fastest closing sectional in each of her three runs at Newcastle and although they’ve been over the minimum trip she’s finished strong off a true gallop. I don’t think she’ll have a problem getting the extra furlong (she was a runner-up over 6f at Thirsk) and she might even relish the step up in trip.
Her last two speed ratings have been higher than her handicap mark and a rating of 71 undersells her ability.
