Newcastle Tip: Big Lachie
Much better drawn than three weeks ago. Fastest closer last time and should get a good tow into the race.
Lots of intertwined form in the 7.15 Newcastle and the main players are drawn next to each other in stalls 5,6,7. Casterbridge and Young Tiger both won on the same card three weeks ago but the betting has them the wrong way round.
Young Tiger was a comfortable 4 lengths winner but that was in a lower grade and the early pace wasn’t nearly as strong as the one Casterbridge tracked in a higher grade. Both clocked nearly identical closing sectionals but Casterbridge was more thoroughly tested and put up a more worthy performance and higher speed rating as a result.
However I think neither will win, with Big Lachie benefiting from a much better draw. He struggled to go the early pace last time but it’s hard to get involved from a wide draw at Newcastle, whereas he’s now drawn in the thick of it.
He was the fastest closer last time out and if they go a decent gallop he can pick up the pieces.
