Newcastle: Dusky Prince

Clocked a rapid 21.36s closing sectional at Lingfield. It was a strange race but more conservative tactics and a change of headgear seemed to do the trip. Has some decent back form too.

In terms of potential, Dusky Prince has the highest ceiling in the 6.45 Newcastle. He won on debut then finished 6th in the Woodcote Stakes on Derby Day but has lost his way since.

Poor results have seen him shed 9lbs in the handicap and his headstrong attitude hasn’t helped him show his best. Last time out he clocked a rapid 21.36s closing sectional at Lingfield with a change of tactics and cheekpieces (instead of blinkers) contributing to an improve performance. I don’t want to get carried away with that Lingfield race, as it was a strange contest, with the first two-home getting clear of the field entering the homestraight.

Nevertheless I like the fact Dusky Prince didn’t have to lead and he pulled well clear of the pack in third. His form is inconsistent but the highs are enough to warrant an interest.
