Newbury Tips: Magical Memory
Ran impossibly badly at Ascot and bounced back to win at Haydock. Narrow victor but fastest closer by 0.44s and better than margin.
Although I didn’t back him for the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, Magical Memory was high on my short list therefore it was very surprising to see him trail in a distance 18th.
Nothing untoward was discovered after the race but the run was too bad to be true and so it proved as he won at Haydock a fortnight ago.
Quickening off a strong pace he covered the final 3f, 0.44s faster than the runner-up Kachy and was better than his short-head margin of victory. It’s not the first time he’s run well this season, he gave Tasleet a race at York despite needing the run and not loving the soft ground.
There’s been a few miss-steps by Magical Memory but he’s a high class 6f sprinter and can win the Hackwood Stakes.
