Newbury: Super Cub
Has earned three big speed ratings to date, finally braking his duck at Ripon when fastest closer by 0.64s. Looks a useful sort and opening handicap mark of 78 is generous.
Super Cub finally broke his maiden tag at Ripon but he’s a horse who has been on my radar since his debut at Salisbury. Roger Varian’s colt always runs big speed ratings, especially when you adjust for sectionals. Super Cub is capable of running fast closing splits and that was again evident at Ripon when he was the fastest closer by 0.64s and value for more than the winning margin.
If were handicapping, i’d have him rated in the somewhere between 87-90 but he races off a generous mark of 78. Gavin Ashton claims a further 5lbs and this looks like a great opportunity to win again.
