Newbury: Mystery Monarch

Made headway into a quickening pace on debut over course and distance. Fastest closer and earned a good adjusted speed rating. Will improve for experience and this slightly easier.

Home City heads the market for the 1.15 Newbury but he is opposable having very much got the run of the race at Yarmouth and still lost. With much greater upside is Mystery Monarch who quietly impressed on debut over course and distance.

Held-up in rear, he was poorly positioned as the tempo increased and although not visually obvious he was the fastest closer and he quickened into an accelerating pace. The time of the race was good and it is likely to have been an above average novice.

Only the 8th placed horse has run since but Mitbaahy clocked a consistent time figure in defeat to suggest the time of the Newbury race wasn’t a fluke.
