New Rich Untouchable

New Rich’s last win might have gone unnoticed in some quarters after the well-backed Autumn Tonic found trouble in-running.

Having tipped Autumn Tonic, my focus was also on his luckless passage but having reviewed the race the eye-catching performance came from New Rich.

Detached in rear, he came with a blistering run to win by a comfortable 1.25 lengths. His closing sectional of 22.08s was quick in absolute terms and also 0.64s faster than anything else in the race.

An already good time gets an upgraded speed rating of 80, which is some performance for a horse rated in the 60s. The handicapper has been kind and only put him up 5lbs, which means he can compete in a 0-65 handicap at his beloved Kempton.

A four-time course and distance winner, he could be hard to stop if in the same vein of form as Lingfield.
