Musselburgh Tip: Primo's Comet
Covered much more ground at Newcastle than his rivals yet was only beaten a length in a fair time. Races off a mark in the 60s for the first time and a previous course and distance winner.
After the glut of ‘cutting edge’ information at Royal Ascot such as furlong by furlong sectionals and distance covered we are back into the dark ages. The experts at Timeform can help with sectionals, as can someone with a keen eye and a stop watch but tracking data still eludes British Racing. That is a shame because i’d love to know how much extra ground Primo’s Comet covered at Newcastle.
You don’t have to be Pythagoras to recognise that starting from stall 11 but finishing against the far rail, isn’t the shortest route up a straight track. Primo’s Comet was eventually beaten a length but he must have covered more than that on his hypotenuse path.
Defeat, in a good time, was therefore achieved along a sub-optimal route and his run deserves an upgrade. A previous course and distance winner, he looks well handicapped of a mark of 69 and should be winning again soon.
