Multitask A Classy Sprinter

Much better than his current rating, evidenced by clocking a rapid 21.51s for the final 2f in the Sprint Series Final last month.

I’m struggling to think of a sprinter I’ve been more impressed by this winter than Multitask – the fact he is rated only 72 makes the story even more remarkable.

Last month he won the valuable Lingfield Sprint Series in impressive fashion. Observers might conclude that is the peak of his abilities but it’s just the start.

Visually his style of racing suggests he has a potent turn of foot but it is only when you examine sectional timings that you get a full appreciation of his ability.

Dipping below 22sec for the final 2f at Lingfield is good but to clock 21.51s is seriously fast.

Multitask won the Sprint Series Final despite being held-up in the rear of a slowly run race. Most horses would struggle to bridge the gap as the pace accelerated but he showed a devastating turn of foot.

It was a performance that didn’t come out of the blue, his win on 1 February was achieved in similar circumstances, travelling notably well in the home straight.

Even his defeat on 15 February was impressive; he was badly hampered turning for home but still clocked a fast final 2f.

Multitask is one of the few horses where the cliché ‘he will be better in a better race’ seems appropriate.
