Manaafidh Can Get Credit He Deserves
A rare hold-up winner at Newmarket’s July Festival whose performance was overshadowed but the luckless runner-up.
A small but select group line up for the 1.30 Ascot and of the big two in the betting I’m siding with Manaafidh.
He won what is usually a hot maiden at Newmarket but won’t get the credit he deserves. Most of the attention fell on the luckless runner-up Muntazah, who got hampered when trying to make a run but Manaafidh overcame a more subtle handicap.
Front-runners held sway through the July meeting but Manaafidh was one of the few to come from off the pace to win, making up 3.9l in the final 2f.
He ran the fastest closing sectional of the race and earned a good speed rating of approximately 89 when you adjust for the pace discrepancy.
In what looks a two-horse race he is the best bet.
