Make The Right Choice At Ascot

High numbers held sway on the straight course at Ascot yesterday and if the pattern repeats then The Right Choice could be just that. He is proven on soft ground and improved over the winter.

Horses drawn high that raced down the nearside rail enjoyed an advantage yesterday on the straight course at Ascot and any potential bias hasn’t been accounted for in the prices. These sort of biases come with a health warning, they could be pace and not draw related and the going stick isn’t detailed enough to help but i’d rather been drawn low than high as these biases can be self perpetuating.

The Right Choice won on soft ground over 6f on his seasonal debut in 2018 and he’s got the same conditions to open his turf campaign in 2019. Two starts back he won at Southwell and he did it the hard way. Coming from off the pace at Southwell, from stall 1 isn’t usually a recipe for success but he ground out the win and he might do the same again at Ascot.

His racing style means he can get outpaced early which is probably why he likes cut in the ground, it means the leaders can’t get away and his stamina comes into play. Last time out at Dundalk he was drawn wide and posted four deep around the bend but even then he still was closing at the finish.

Paddy Mathers is a good jockey booking having won on him at Southwell and his mounts record over 6f on going rated soft/heavy or on the Fibresand is 314311.
