Long Distance Cup Tip: Order Of St George

Long Distance Cup Tip: Order Of St George

Defeat in the Irish St. Leger must rankle but Ryan Moore was beaten by a better ride. He can make amends over the favourable 2m trip.

Order Of St George has failed to score in his last two starts and with a shock defeat in the Irish St Leger (at 1/7) fresh in the memory I can understand why the betting public are approaching him with caution.

Having not backed him at the Curragh I can be more lenient and his defeats have been excusable. Third place in the Arc is highly respectable over a trip that is short of his best and his defeat in the St. Leger was tactical.

Ryan Moore gave Wicklow Brave (who is a good horse in his own right) too much of a head start. Frankie Dettori was able to set an even pace (105.5% finishing speed) and even though Order Of St George made up 2.2 lengths in the final 3f he ran out of track.

Order Of St George doesn’t lack a turn of foot, he showed a devastating one in the Gold Cup at Ascot but at 1m4f/1m6f he is up against faster horses. A return to 2m is therefore ideal and he can finish the season on a high.
