Lingfield: Top Boy

Only raced twice over optimum trip of 5f this all-weather season, finishing third both times. Running better than bare form, with efforts at 6f discounted. Good speed figure at Wolverhampton just over a month ago.

Top Boy has seemingly become more inconsistent with age, and that may be true but his inconsistency is influenced by some sub-optimal race entries. The 11-year-old has done the vast majority of his winning over the minimum trip but lately he’s been running over 6f. If you remove those runs his record this all-weather season becomes 33; the first of which was achieved with a good speed rating at Wolverhampton - that was just over a month ago.

He’s probably not regressed in such a short period of time and it’s conditions that have been clouding his form. A repeat of that Wolverhampton run puts him in contention and it is interesting to note that his 6 all-weather wins have been from stalls 6 or lower. He likes getting dropped in and finishing strong and he can do that from stall 4.
