Lingfield Tips: Second Thought
Ran a rapid 21.28s sectional to win the Spring Cup in a fast time. Has the speed to cope with drop to 6f.
Second Thought is the hot favourite for the three-year-old championship but he’ll have to cope with a drop back to 6f. He’s won at the trip twice before but got slightly outpaced last time out in the Spring Cup.
Visually it looked hard work but the sectionals give us the complete picture. The early pace was steady and the race turned into a sprint finish. Second Thought displayed an excellent turn of foot to cover the final 2f in 21.28s. It was 0.33s faster than anything else in the race and the 8th fastest closing sectional recorded at the track from the last 6132 runners.
Second Thought will be better over 7f but he doesn’t lack speed in case it becomes a tactical affair. I gave him an adjusted speed rating of 104 in victory and he is a smart colt.
