Lingfield Tips: Opera Lad

Pedigree suggests he will be suited by a step up in trip and showed enough encouragement on his debut to warrant an interest.

The 2.50 Lingfield is not the strongest maiden and unless debutants from Kevin Ryan or Lee Carter’s yard are fully wound up, this could become a procession for Opera Lad.

Last time Opera Lad was left with too much to do, racing in rear behind a steady pace (107.8% finishing speed). When the race got serious 3f from home, he hit a flat spot before finding his stride and closing in a respectable 22.96s.

It was a decent performance for a debutant and he should come on for the run.

Opera Lad’s family is laden with stamina, his half-brother won over 14f, therefore a step up to 12f looks in his favour.

Andrew Balding and David Probert have a 38% strike-rate (9-24) with 3-year-olds this winter and Opera Lad should be capable of adding to the tally at 2/1 (Bet365).
