Lingfield Tips: Elusive Ellen
Beating a 104-rated horse in a claimer looks dubious form but the clock tells a different story.
According to the market Elusive Ellen (SP 20/1) fluked a win over Tarooq (SP 2/9) last time out but the sectional times tell a different story.
The race was run at a steady gallop (108.8% finishing speed) and although Elusive Ellen got first run on the favourite she covered the final 2f in 22.2s, the quickest in the contest.
Elusive Ellen won the race on merit and the handicapper has been lenient in raising her only 3lbs, despite beating a horse rated 104.
It is fair to say Tarooq isn’t at the top of his game but he did win his next start as did New Leyf, who finished 9.75 lengths back in fourth.
Collateral form suggests Elusive Ellen’s race was strong and that is backed up by the sectional timings but strangely, she is overlooked in the market at 13/2 (Paddy Power).
