Lingfield Tips: Diamond Charlie
Consistent performer at 5f on the all-weather, looks well handicapped and this isn’t the toughest class 2 contest in the world.
The 2.00 Lingfield is a good-looking race on paper but beyond the top two in the handicap it reads more like a class 4 contest.
Lightscameraction and Go Far are the class horses in the field but neither looks particularly well handicapped at the moment. This gives those rated in the 80s a chance to scoop a big pot.
Diamond Charlie is a regular on the all-weather circuit and a four-time winner in 5f sprints.
He was only beaten 2.75 lengths last time despite not getting a clear run and on his penultimate start he ran a good sectional adjusted speed rating of 81 at Chelmsford, when runner-up to Secret Asset.
He is below his last winning mark and although normally a class 2 handicap would be above his threshold, this is weaker than a normal race for its grade. He is a good bet at 8/1 (Betfred).
