Lingfield Tips: Al’s Memory
Ran well over course and distance last month and was winning in a much higher grade just 12 months ago.
The 6.35 Lingfield is a good quality sprint handicap with several familiar names in the line-up.
Marjong is a horse I’ve backed on numerous occasions this season so I’m taking a big risk by opposing her. Her strike rate is poor and her style of racing means she needs the pace to collapse, which I don’t think will happen today.
Al’s Memory is 6lbs below his last winning mark and from a good draw in stall 3, he rates a good bet at 5/1 (Paddy Power).
The 5-year-old has been lightly raced this summer but his last two performances have been good. He was only beaten 0.75 lengths in a class 4 handicap over course and distance last month and a repeat of that form should see him go close.
Around this time last year he was winning a class 2 handicap on turf and that gives him the edge in an evenly matched field.
