King George Tips: Cue Card To Triumph

King George Tips: Cue Card

Revitalised by a breathing operation and tongue-tie this could finally be Cue Card’s year.

This looks a good renewal of the King George (3.10 Kempton) with a strong challenge coming over the Irish Sea. However, only three different horses have won the race in the last nine years and past course and distance form could be crucial.

My short-list contains the 1-2-3 from the 2013 edition but I suspect they will finish in a different order. Al Ferof has been revitalised by a move to Dan Skelton but question marks over the trip remain. Having said that he is big enough to encourage an each-way interest.

The key players are Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti and it might be third time lucky for Cue Card.

The 9-year-old was hampered last season by a trapped epiglottis but a breathing operation and the application of a tongue-tie has brought him back to his best.

If you ignore last season’s campaign then his last ten Racing Post Ratings have been 170-153-170-176-178-172-176-174-170-178 dating back to November 2012.

Running to a mark in the 170s has been good enough to win the last three King Georges and Cue Card is well capable of hitting that mark again. After an impressive win in the Betfair Chase he is the one they all have to beat at 9/2 (Paddy Power).
