King George Stakes: Battaash
Has run two huge speed figures this season but was caught out by Ascot's stiff finish. The easier 5f at Goodwood is in his favour.
Battaash has won 50% of his starts over the minimum trip and anything odds-against is an attractive bet. Make no doubt Charlie Hills has a classy 4-year-old in his ranks and one that is capable of putting up some huge speed ratings.
Battaash put up a big speed figure when winning the Temple Stakes on his return from wind surgery and he ran another massive race in defeat in the King’s Stand, when possibly going off a fraction too hard. A combination of a very strong gallop and stiff track found him out at Ascot but Goodwood’s sharper 5f plays to his strengths.
Twelve months ago Battaash demolished a decent field by 2.25 lengths and although the opposition are slightly stronger I expect him to run out the winner again. Only four horses have got the better of Battaash since the start of 2017 and I cannot see anything beating him here.
