Southwell: True Icon
Easy winner of novice event last time and blistering 21.34s closing sectional, 0.6s better than rest, really stands out. Has flashed ability before and looks vastly underrated off mark of 70.
True Icon was due to make her handicap debut a week ago but i’m happy to keep her onside in the 8.15 Southwell because I don’t understand her mark of 70. It’s the same mark she had when winning a Novice race by 3.25 lengths and she couldn’t have looked more impressive.
The overall time is largely immaterial because they went so slowly through the first half of the race but a 21.34s closing sectional was impressive even accounting for pace, tail wind and fast track. Her closing sectional was 0.6s faster than the second horse.
It’s not the first time she’s wowed on the clock; when second behind Meredif at Nottingham she produced a big speed figure and she simply looks underrated.
