Kempton Tips: Valbchek

Won a Listed contest this time last year and his comeback on the all-weather was much better than it seemed.

The 6.50 Kempton is a good quality race but Valbchek is massively overpriced at 25/1 (Sportingbet) considering his record on the all-weather.

Around this time last year, Valbchek was winning a Listed contest at Lingfield and although his form has tailed off most of his runs have come on turf.

On his return to the all-weather, he was only beaten four lengths by Hallelujah in a hot Conditions event.

Held-up in rear, he was in the wrong position as the race panned out. The final 3f was 105.2% of the overall finishing speed, one of the most unbalanced 6f races seen at the track this autumn.

It resulted in a sprint finish and although Valbchek closed in a rapid 34.2s, the leaders weren’t slowing either.

The handicapper has dropped him 5lbs since that run and he’s now off a mark where he can be competitive in handicaps.

A step up in trip to 7f, is a slight unknown but he’s well drawn in stall 1 and George Baker is a master at getting a horse to conserve its energy.
