Kempton Tips: Chelwood Gate
Left his run too late and could not reel in the leaders despite a fast finish. Has tumbled down the weights and capable of winning in this grade.
It is often difficult to be objective about a jockey’s ride when you have money riding on the result but it’s probably fair to say Jim Crowley got things wrong on Chelwood Gate last time.
Held-up behind an even gallop (103.3% finishing speed), he left it very late to push the button on Chelwood Gate. It resulted in What A Dandy and Tevez getting first run and the gap could never be bridged.
Perhaps Chelwood Gate finds little off the bridle but the way he took off after getting a smack, into a quickening pace, suggests the horse doesn’t have any application issues.
Racing in the same grade, backers should get their money back with interest at 4/1 (Boylesports).
