Kempton Tip: Shimmering Dawn

Won three of her nine starts but it could have been more. Undone twice at Chelmsford by a combination of slow starts, poor draws and moderate gallops but always finished strongly.

Shimmering Dawn has shown herself to be a talented but sometimes luckless individual in her limited starts to date. She began 2019 by rattling off a hat-trick of wins but then her tendancy to jump slowly out of the gates cost her races.

At Chelmsford she was steadied at the start and dropped in from a high draw. On paper a sound tactic but the leaders didn’t come back to her enough and she failed by a nose despite running the fastest closing sectional by 0.54s. Later in September it was a similair story again at Chelmsford when she gave some good horses too much of a start in a steadily run race.

Kempton’s long straight should give Shimmering Dawn more time to make-up any lost ground on the leaders and if she has a decent pace to aim at she should win.
