Kempton Tip: Evanescent

Kempton Tip: Evanescent

Races off a 12lbs lower all-weather mark but shaped as if in form when a close third on turf last time out.

Rated 73 on turf, connections are trying to exploit Evanescent’s 12lbs inferior mark on the all-weather but with turf racing the dominant force during the summer, they’ve had to make some compromises.

Evanescent is racing in class 6 company but he’s tackling a mile for the first time since 2014. There is a danger he pulls too hard and ruins his race but on pure ability he should win.

Last time out he was beaten 2.25 lengths in a class 4 handicap on turf but he did too much in front on soft ground. His finishing speed of 97.2% is slower than par, indicative of a tiring horse.

If Robert Winston can get his mount settled, then he is good enough to win dropped a couple of grades but there is risk attached. That is without even mentioning the poor form of Tony Carroll’s yard.
