Kempton: Excellent George
Consistent sort who ran a fine race when third at Chelmsford on his last all-weather start. Handles the track and trip, appears to retain ability and this might not prove hard to win.
It is a shame that the power than be have cut back on claiming and selling races as they provide variety from the constant stream of handicaps whilst also offering connections a different option for their horses.
It is fair to say these types of races don’t always run to form and as expected there are plenty of quirky individuals in the line-up. In terms of strike rate Excellent George (6/52) knows how to win and although his best form has come at Chelmsford he has run ok at Kempton and never below a class 4 level.
When last seen on a synthetic surface he filled third in a good quality class 4 handicap at Chelmsford. The form of that race is rock solid and it produced good speed figures to boot. It’s been over two years since Excellent George has won but the ability remains and this large drop in class can make the difference.
