Kempton: Antiphon

Third in hot Newmarket novices' race back in April. Didn't handle the undulations of the track but finished strongly as the penny started to drop. Long absence to overcome but talented.

A common racing trope is he/she didn’t handle the dip/undulations/bend etc and it is used to explain away a bad performance. Often it is a convenient excuse but for Antiphon it’s actually a fact.

He made his debut at Newmarket way back in April and he was completely thrown off kilter by the undulations. I’ve watched the reply several times and at one point it looks like he’s got all four legs in the air like a novice hurdler.

Considering this greeness, he did extremely well to finish third in a race that has provided plenty high-class winner since. The long lay-off is a slight concern but he’s talented individual and received weight from the favourite.
