July Stakes: Classy Moon

Earned a sectional adjusted speed rating of 88 on debut, clocking the fastest closing sectional by 0.71s. Promises to be better over 6f and didn't get the cleanest of breaks either.

I do love a big speed figure from a gaff track because snobbery in racing often leads to value in the betting markets. Classy Moon was backed like defeat was out the question on debut at Carlisle but after getting a bump out of the stalls, a wide draw almost became catastrophic.

Clifford Lee to his credit kept persevering and Classy Mount found his stride in the home straight powering home to win by 2.25 lengths and cover the final 3f in a time 0.71s quicker than anything else. The runner-up subsequently made it to Royal Ascot and although he didn’t show much, it gives a the form a small class boost.

The real good news is Classy Moon earned a sectional adjusted speed rating of 88 on debut and given his awkward start and his strong finish he should improve for the step-up in trip and by just getting a clear run. He is underrated in the market.
