July Cup: Advertise

Hugely impressive winner of Commonwealth Cup and if we conclude Royal Ascot's track was drying throughout the week, then he outperformed Dream Of Dreams on the clock.

We have a fascinating renewal of the July Cup and begrudgingly I have to move away from Dream Of Dreams. In truth, i’m still bitter about the ride he was given in the Diamond Jubilee, it is a race he should have won and having been on him at fancy prices there is a fair element of pocket talk too!

The July Cup would be a sensible consolation but for the presence of Advertise. He left his ‘too bad to be true’ performance in the 2000 Guineas to win the Commonwealth Cup in impressive fashion. He also caught my attention on the clock. His overall time of 71.88s was 0.43s slower than that of Dream Of Dreams the following day but we must take into account the drying ground. According to the Racing Post, the going was 0.16s per furlong faster on Saturday, that would equate to 0.96s over six furlongs, making Advertise 0.56s quicker than Dream Of Dreams. In terms of the final 2f sectional there is only 0.05s between them.

Yes, this is an all too simplistic analysis and relies on accurate going conclusions. However, there is enough there to suggest Advertise is the better horse, he is also more likely to improve being younger. His record over 6f is now 12111 and he is the one to side with at the same price.
