It Pays To Be Popular

It Pays To Be Popular

Forever Popular has run in three good maidens this season and has been given a workable first handicap mark.

Forever Popular has been discreetly campaigned by William Haggas and one win in three maiden races isn’t anything to get excited about until you dig a little deeper.

On debut she came from a long way back to finish second at Newbury, the steady pace meant she couldn’t catch the leader but on sectional rating she was the best horse in the race by 3 lengths.

On her next start she was unfortunate to bump into the useful Gretchen, who finished fifth in a Group 2 next time.

Eventually, Forever Popular got on the board by winning at Chepstow at prohibitive odds of 4/11.

Her victory wasn’t visually impressive but the race was run at a crawl and turned into a 3f sprint for home. Forever Popular showed good speed to run the third fastest closing sectional at Chepstow this season and the form was franked after the runner-up won her next start.

I think the handicapper has underestimated her ability and she can make hay off a mark of 83, starting with the 3.35 Ascot.
