Wolverhampton Tips: How To Solve A Problem Like Mariee

Overturned a hot favourite on debut and covered the same course and distance 0.9s quicker than Sweet Temptation, albeit it 23-days later.

Mariee’s performance stuck in the craw because she made me look rather foolish at Chelmsford. Having made the trip to the Essex venue for the first time she stung me when getting up to beat odds-on favourite Town’s History.

At first it seemed a below par-effort from the Godolphin horse but having analysed the race Mariee comes out with great credit.

Despite looking green (this was her debut) she chased a solid gallop and fought through a narrow gap to run the fastest closing sectional by 0.48s. By my calculations she earned an adjusted speed rating of 66, which is a fair effort first time.

Her big rival in the 6.15 Wolverhampton is Sweet Temptation also a winner on debut over 7f at Chelmsford.

It can be dangerous comparing times across different meetings but Mariee ran 0.9s faster than Sweet Temptation with almost all this advantage being built up in the first 4f of the race.

Both horses ran similar closing sectionals and distributed their energy evenly across the race, it’s just that Mariee was simply quicker.
