Grand National Tips: Pendra
Won a valuable Ascot handicap at the start of the season and ran well in the Irish National (2014) as an inexperienced six-year-old. Getting better with racing.
One of the joy’s of the Grand National is the opportunity to back a big price winner and if you are looking for a rank outsider you could do a lot worse than Pendra.
He started the season by winning a valuable Grade 3 handicap at Ascot, proving he has a bit of class. He was unable to double up over course and distance in December but was bang there until a mistake at the last knocked the stuffing out of him and he was eased down in fifth.
We’ve not seen the 8-year-old since but he’s almost certainly been saved for the big prizes in the spring.
Back in 2014 he hinted at being capable of lasting a marathon trip when 10th in the Irish National as a 6-year-old, an excellent performance given his age.
To put that performance into context he finished ahead of Cause Of Cause and 11.5 lengths behind Goonyella. He re-opposes the latter in the Grand National but is 8lbs better off at the weight and five times the price.
At 100/1 (BetVictor) you cannot go wrong backing Pendra each-way with ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
