Gabrial's Star In Chester Cup

Gabrial's Star In Chester Cup

Handles cut in the ground and was an unlucky loser when beaten by John Reel (now rated 101) on his last start.

Back in February, I earmarked Gabrial’s Star as a potential Chester Cup (3.10) horse and I’m happy to stick with my first impression.

On his last start at Wolverhampton he finished 0.75 lengths behind John Reel but he was the moral victor that day.

With two furlong to run, Gabrial’s Star found himself in some scrimmaging and gave John Reel a two-length head-start on the run for home. Once he got in the clear, he started to make up ground on the winner but the finishing line came too soon.

The race was run at a moderate gallop (105.3% finishing speed), favouring those that race prominently and Gabrial’s Star was the only horse to make any significant ground from off the pace.

I have no doubt he will stay the trip and in stall 2 he has the perfect draw.

He is a previous course winner, handles cut in the ground and if his form line with John Reel can be taken literally (John Reel now rated 101), then he is well handicapped racing off a mark of 92.

He might be one of the less fancied Koukash runners but is an excellent each-way bet at 18/1 (BetVictor) with ¼ odds for a top-4 finish.
