Yarmouth Tips: Rive Gauche

Jockey and new headgear combination worked last time and William Haggas has a 39% strike-rate with 3yos at Yarmouth.

The 3.00 Yarmouth is the feature race of the day and the opportunity to win a large pot and get some black type has brought out the big yards.

Three-year-olds have won eight of the last ten renewals and the younger horses are the obvious starting point.

There is a mixture of lightly raced improvers (Loving Things) and highly rated more exposed types (Suffused) but the horse that catches my eye is Rive Gauche.

At the start of the season, she had the potential to be a good filly. She was only beaten 1.75 lengths in a Listed contest at York, earning a Racing Post Rating of 100.

She’s rather struggled since then under various combinations of trip and going but finally the penny dropped at Salisbury last month.

The race had little strength in depth, but she won easily and the runner-up has scored since.

The combination of Harry Bentley and first-time headgear might have made the difference and the jockey retains the ride, whilst blinkers are applied.

William Haggas has a tremendous 39% strike-rate (19-49) with 3-year-olds at Yarmouth and having sent out six winners from his last ten runners 33/1 (William Hill) is ludicrously big.
