Folkestone Tips: Poole Harbour

Looks a progressive type and helped by the defection of his most likely rival.

The withdrawal of Slip Sliding Away has changed the complexion of the 3.55 Folkestone. He was on my shortlist along with Poole Harbour and his defection has opened the way for the Richard Hannon horse.

He is well drawn in stall 12, which effectively becomes the second best draw in the race. Folkestone traditionally has a strong bias towards the stand’s rail, with the highest eight stalls enjoying a big advantage over six furlongs.

Having only his sixth career start, Poole Harbour is likely to have some improvement left in him. Last time out he was a comfortable 4-length winner at Kempton and although maiden form is hard to judge, the runner-up has won since.

The Racing Post awarded him a rating of 90 for that performance, 5lbs above his current mark. With a decent first prize of £9,700, I’m not surprised connections have decided to exploit his handicap mark. At 9/2 (William Hill) he looks a cut above the rest.
