Epsom Tips: Atteq
Finished first and second since application of a tongue-tie. Not suited by steady pace last time out.
Atteq hasn’t got the sort of profile that attracts much attention in a competitive 3-year-old handicap, it took him 8 attempts to break his duck but there’s been a step change in his performance level.
In a first-time tongue-strap he smashed an albeit moderate field at Beverley, winning by 7 lengths. He failed to defy a 6lbs penalty at Musselburgh but was slightly unlucky. Thomas Cranmer dictated a steady gallop and the race turned into a sprint finish. Atteq let the winner get first run but clocked the fastest closing sectional in defeat.
A mark of 81 isn’t insurmountable, he is breathing better and there’s no outstanding candidate in opposition.
