Epsom Tip: Shamshon

Fifth in the race last year, making good late headway from a bad draw. Races off an 11lbs lower mark and has a much better draw.

Shamshon finished fifth, beaten two lengths in this race last year and he must be given a chance off a 11lbs lower mark. It’s not like his form has been atrocious either. He won a class 2 handicap at Newmarket last July and although win-less over the winter on the all-weather he’s not been beaten by more than four lengths.

The 7-year-old has a fair superior strike-rate on turf and he’s also much better drawn that he was in last year’s renewal. Twelve months ago he came from stall 1, making good headway from off the pace, with the second fastest closing sectional. This time he’s drawn in stall, nearer the favourable stand’s rail and he should be able to sit closer to the leaders.

Shamshon handles most underfoot conditions and could run a big race off a favourable looking mark.
