Epsom Dash Tips: Barnet Fair

Epsom Dash Tips: Barnet Fair

Best of the low drawn horses when sixth from stall 2 last year and much better drawn this time round.

The Epsom Dash (3.45) could give us the perfect example of how the draw affects sprint handicaps.

Last year Barnet Fair finished sixth from stall 2 and this year races from the more favourable stall 19.

The Epsom Dash over the years has favoured horses drawn high because they can race against the nearside rail. Last year’s top five started from gates 14-17-12-13-15 with Barnet Fair sixth, best of the low numbers.

It’s a theme that has repeated itself over the years. In the last 10 renewals of the Dash, six winners have come from stall 14 or higher.

If you judge all 5f handicaps at Epsom for the last 10 years, a similar pattern emerges. The top-8 stalls beat on average 54% of the field, the next 8 stalls only beat 44%.

Barnet Fair should improve because of the better draw and although he was well held at Thirsk last time he probably needed the run and has been targeted at this race, a contest Dandy Nicholls has won twice in the last decade.
