Epsom Dash Tip: Equimou
Finished fourth in the Palace House stakes, running the second fastest closing sectional. Form of the race looks strong and a 5lbs hike in the weights probably doesn't full represent her ability.
Equimou is a big price for the Dash (3.45 Epsom) perhaps in part for the 5lbs hike she took, despite not winning at Newmarket. I think the weight rise underestimate her ability.
Equimou didn’t get the cleanest of breaks and remained in rear until finishing strongly to take fourth. Her 33.85s closing sectional was second only to Mabs Cross and that form has been franked in a red-hot Temple Stakes.
In defeat, I gave Equimou and adjusted speed rating of 98 but it’s not the first time she’s impressed on the clock. Last year at Yarmouth she earned an adjusted speed rating of 103 when winning at Yarmouth and it was no fluke but this is a horse who place in Listed company as a juvenile.
As a 4-year-old she should still be improving as a sprinter and although i’m slightly concerned whether she was the early speed necessary for the Dash, she did manage to track the leaders at Catterick, another sharp track. She shouldn’t be 20/1.
