Earl Of Sefton Stakes Tips: Sovereign Debt
Chris Hayes's record on the horse is 312221 and runner-up in the Darley Stakes last year run over the same course and distance. Handles soft ground.
For the second time in as many years Sovereign Debt finished a desperate second on All-Weather Finals’ Day at Lingfield. His defeat wasn’t obviously unlucky but he allowed the eventual winner to get first run and couldn’t reel him in despite running the fastest sectional of the race.
Equally effective on turf, he lines up for the 4.30 Newmarket and should enjoy the cut in the ground. Last season he won twice on going described as ‘good to yielding’ and twice won on soft earlier in his career.
The 7-year-old has to shoulder a penalty in the race but finished a close second in a similar contest over course and distance last year, so should show up well again.
Chris Hayes flies over for just one ride and his record on Sovereign Debt is an impressive 312221.
He might find one too good again but at 8/1 (William Hill) is a solid each-way bet considering he’s finished in the top-two in 22 of 36 career starts.
