Doncaster Tips: Zone In

Doncaster Tips: Zone In

Well backed on handicap debut but tired in soft ground after going too hard up front. On recovery mission.

A big field of limited ability lines up for the 5.00 Doncaster and there could be all manner of fun and games in the betting market.

Having been beaten 9, 13 and 9.25 lengths in three maiden starts Zone In was punted on his handicap debut at Carlisle and sent off at 11/2. Connections obviously thought he was well handicapped off a mark of 60 and although he failed to land the gamble they might have been onto something.

The reason for his Carlisle defeat was Tony Hamilton misjudging the pace. He went too quick in soft ground which meant that Zone In’s finishing speed was 94.96% of his average race speed, much slower than par.

Ben Sanderson takes over the ride at Doncaster and claims a useful 7lbs. If he can judge the pace better and the quicker ground will help, then connections could recoup their losses.
