Doncaster Tips: Lexington Abbey

Doncaster Tips: Lexington Abbey

Recent races ruined by consecutive bad draws at York but still ran with credit against a strong bias.

Poor draws have blighted Lexington Abbey this season but he shapes like he can win a big sprint handicap and that could be the Portland (2.35) at Doncaster.

Twice at York he’s been undone by a high draw in a season where it’s paid to be drawn low on the straight track. Despite the obvious disadvantage he’s run well, finishing 10/20 and 5/16 in competitive fields.

A strong traveller he is equally adept over 5f or 6f and the intermediate trip of the Portland could be exactly what he needs. Fast sectionals at York and Ascot indicate he’s better than a rating of 95 and it’s good to see Jamie Spencer was booked early because he has 2 wins and 2 seconds for 9 starts.

Kevin Ryan’s runners are always worth a second look in valuable sprint handicaps and he could bag another big pot with Lexington Abbey.
