Depth Charge To Recapture Early Promise

Depth Charge To Recapture Early Promise

Impressive winner two starts back when running a closing sectional 0.7s faster than his rivals. No-show last time needs to be forgiven.

The 7.45 Wolverhampton looks a hot race with four last time out winners and a host of in-form horses.

A fortnight ago I couldn’t have been more confident in Depth Charge, making him a rare two-point selection. Unfortunately he finished a never nearer sixth and now I’m left confused.

Two starts back he was a deeply impressive winner of a claimer, coming from last to first with a closing sectional 0.7s faster than anything else in the race and the quickest of the night. To put it into context he ran the 44th fastest closing sectional over 7f at Wolverhampton out of the last 1000 runners.

Sent off favourite in a class 6 handicap he was never put in the race. From a wide draw he had to sit and suffer and made limited headway at the finish. I’m willing to put it down as a ‘bad day at the office’ and Robert Havlin is a positive booking with a 321 record on the horse.

Depth Charge takes a big leap in grade this evening but he’s well-handicapped off a mark of 71 and underrated at 10/1 (Bet365).
